The Department of Health (DOH) logged on Friday a record for the daily death toll, or 401, from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Also, 12,225 new Covid-19 cases were also logged pushing the total number of active cases nationwide to 178,351.
With the 401 fatalities on Friday, the total tally of deaths from Covid-19 now stands at 14,520 while the tally of recovered patients reached 647,683, including the additional 946 who managed to survive the illness also on Friday.
Friday’s 12,225 new cases was still lower than the record of 15,310 logged last April 2, but that figure included 3,790 case backlogs.
With the new number of cases on Friday, the Philippines now has a total of 840,554 Covid-19 cases.
The DOH said current active cases represent 21.2 percent of the case count while the number of recovered patients and deaths account for 77.1 percent and 1.73 percent, respectively. Furthermore, 98.8 percent of active cases are mild and asymptomatic, it added.
The National Capital Region and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal are currently under the strictest enhanced community quarantine to stop the recent spikes of Covid-19 cases. SOVEREIGNPH
