The chairman of a barangay in Quezon City is in hot water over the staging of a three-day event that resulted in the infection of 54 attendees for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said that 610 attended the three-day event held in the second week of May, and that 54 have already tested positive for Covid-19. She added Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon Chairman Feliciano dela Cruz has already been issued a show cause order by the city government.
“The question is, did the party happen with a permit from the village chairman or did it happen without his knowledge,? We issued the show cause order to the village chairman since the party happened in hsi covered court, under his watch and he was present in the event last May 11 since there was a mass before the party. It’s quite unbelievable if the party happened without him knowing it,” Belmonte said in Filipino in a television interview.
Social media posts on the super spreader event, which had improvised swimming pools, showed people disregarding social distancing protocols and not wearing face masks.
Quezon City like all localities in the National Capital Region (NCR) is still under the general community quarantine until the end of this month. SOVEREIGNPH
