Half-Filipino Hollywood actor Dave Bautista will no longer star as Drax the Destroyer in “Guardians 3,” saying he would be 54 years old by that time and may not be comfortable taking his shirt off.
“I’m going to be 54 years old by the time ‘Guardians 3’ comes out,” he told Ellen DeGeneres in her television show. “The shirtless thing is getting harder and harder for me.”
Bautista is 52 years old and is starring in “Army of the Dead” alongside Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera and Omari Hardwick. It was directed by Zack Snyder.
Bautista said Netflix and Snyder were sending a strong message on those responsible for Asian hate crimes with the diverse cast of “Army of the Dead.”
“We have actors from all walks of life, backgrounds and color with a killer movie,” he said.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Bautista spoke out against Asian hate crimes in the US.
“I just wasn’t raised with it. It’s so foreign to me why people are so hateful over such superficial things…..and I think you know, it’s a weird thing man – I think there’s more people pushing back than there are people (who) just want to be stuck in the past,” Bautista added.
He also said he was proud of his Filipino lineage.
Before his breakout role in the first Guardians instalment, Bautista gained fame in professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. SOVEREIGNPH
