Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso said on Friday that he has plans to run in the 2022 national polls but did not disclose what position he is aiming for.
He also said that the positions in government are not inherited.
Domagoso was among the five names floated by the Palace on Thursday as possible choices by the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte as bets for the presidential slot in 2022. The others are Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, former senator Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr., and Senators Manny Pacquiao and Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
“I am busy as a mayor and I have an obligation for the people in Manila. I would rather focus on that until the last day that I will make a decision, and I’m going to be fair with our people… I will make announcement to my constituents,” Domagoso said in a television interview partly in Filipino.
“Whatever the position that would be, that remains to be seen. But definitely I am running. That’s all I can say for now,” Domagoso added partly in Filipino.
Meanwhile, Domagoso said he does not believe that positions in government should be inherited.
“In a democracy, it is the people that choose, and the people to be elected are forced on the people like those from your family. I do not believe in that. I am not going to vote for as a voter, and I disagree as a citizen of this country,” Domagoso said partly in Filipino.
He made that comment amid reports the Sara is being groomed to run for president with his father as her running mate. SOVEREIGNPH
