Filipino teenager Yuka Saso now leads the US Women’s Open golf tournament that was a its halfway stage on Friday.
Saso fired six birdies in a four-under par 67 to take seize a one-shot lead over former champion Lee Jeong-eun of South Korea.
The 19-year old Saso is a two-time winner on the Japan LPGA tour.
Saso is playing in just her third major, but her experience from the LPGA tour is paying off. Also she had a two-shot lead through 36 holes at the Lotte Championship in April.
“Stay patient and enjoy,” she said.
“I hit good shots from the rough today and holed a couple putts,” Saso added.
“First, if I go in the rough, my mindset is just to go for the fairway,” she said.
The 17-year old Megan Khang and England’s Mel Reid shared third place with Khang having 70 and Reid Ganne carding an even par 71.
“It was tough today,” Reid said. “It was cold. Didn’t hit it as good today.”
China’s Feng Shanshan was in fourth place after a 70 for 139. SOVEREIGNPH
