The opposition group 1Sambayan is considering six political personalities to run for president or vice president in the May 2022 polls.
The six are Vice President Maria Leonor Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, former senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes 4th, Sen. Mary Grace Poe, CIBAC Party-list Rep. Eduardo “Bro. Eddie” Villanueva, Batangas 6th District Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto, and lawyer Chel Diokno.
Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario, a member of the group, announced the line up on Saturday.
“We will keep you updated with the developments,” Del Rosario said.
Among the considerations of 1Sambayan in selecting its candidates for the 2022 polls are character, track record, capabilities, and stand on current issues such as response to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, West Philippine Sea, and rule of law.
For 2022, Isambayan will field a candidate for president and vice president, and 12 for senators.
Del Rosario and former Associate Justice Antonio Carpio founded 1Sambayan late last year. Both have been critical of the Duterte administration, with Carpio even saying he is ready to debate with the President on the West Philippine Sea issue. The debate did not push through.Among the six, Robredo and Trillanes have hinted that they are open to running in 2022. SOVEREIGNPH
