Senator Manny Pacquiao is in talks with Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto 3rd, the chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), fueling speculations the iconic boxer will bolt the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) as his feud with some of its officials seems to be worsening.
This, after Mayor Luis “Chavit” Singson of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, a close associate of Pacquiao, also joined the NPC. Singson has been constantly seen beside Pacquiao in the ring during introduction of protagonists.
Sotto said Singson took his oath as an NPC member in simple rites at the NPC Clubhouse in Quezon City.
The Senate President, however, said that his talks with Pacquiao had nothing to do with party issues. A national daily said the talks were about “where the country was headed, how the country will be run in the future and whether they can solve its problems.”
Sen. Panfilo Lacson was present in the talks between Sotto and Pacquiao.
Pacquiao has been at odds with a number of PDP-Laban officials and has called for the boycott of the July 17 meeting of the party. He also called for the boycott of the PDP-Laban national assembly earlier held in Cebu City.
The meeting in Cebu City was called by President Rodrigo Duterte, the PDP-Laban chairman. Pacquiao is the party’s president. SOVEREIGNPH
