FORMER president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino 3rd passed away on Thursday morning at 61 years old.
As confirmed by former Interior secretary Manuel Roxas 2nd, Aquino was rushed to a hospital early on Thursday and passed away even after efforts to revive him.
“PNoy RIP (rest in peace). [He] was rushed to hospital early this morning and passed after efforts to revive failed. Please pray for him. Salamat (Thank you),” Roxas said in a statement.
There were initial reports said Aquino was brought to the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City early Thursday for undisclosed reasons.
Aquino was the country’s 15th president and served from June 2010 to June 2016. His mother Corazon “Cory” Aquino was the country’s 11th president while his father Benigno “Ninoy” served as senator.
Rumors of poor health have plagued Aquino even during his presidency.
