The tandem of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and President Rodrigo Duterte may get the support of the vast majority of the ruling Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
This was disclosed by PDP-Laban Vice Chairman and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi who claimed that at least 90 percent of the party’s members would back Duterte for a vice presidential bid with Go as his standard-bearer for 2022.
He said that PDP-Laban’s members in Cebu and other areas were backing the Go-Duterte team-up and there is a draft resolution for that, adding he is sure of a 90-percent support from the party for the tandem.
“That is my personal belief, considering the clamor that I have seen when we were going around. Based on that, 90-percent support would be quite low should President Duterte decide to run,” Cusi said in a television interview.
However, he said that Go is not pushing himself to be the PDP-Laban’s standard bearer for 2022.
“In fairness to Sen. Bong Go, he said that he does not want to be involved yet. But I told him that I am not the one pushing that (Go-Duterte) tandem,” Cusi said in Filipino.
In the Cebu meeting of PDP-Laban last May, a resolution was adopted urging Duterte to run for vice president. The president has yet to formally declare whether to run or not in the 2022 polls although he has shown openness for such.
