An official of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party has asked Senator Manny Pacquiao to leave amid the latter making accusations of increased corruption in the Duterte administration.
PDP-Laban Vice Chairman and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said that it is better for Pacquiao to leave before he could “burn the house”.
“Maybe it is not right to burn your own house. Don’t say something about it. Leave before burning the house,” Cusi said partly in Filipino in a television interview.
Pacquiao has recently made accusations of increased corruption in the Duterte administration, which has angered President Rodrigo Duterte who challenged the senator to name officials and agencies allegedly involved in corruption.
Cusi even said that Pacquiao was chosen as acting president of the party in December and that was made without the knowledge of Duterte and key party officials. He said that move surprised him.
“We were not informed when they made that decision,” he said.
Pacquiao and Cusi were at loggerheads last May over the holding of the PDP-Laban national assembly in Cebu. While Duterte instructed Cusi to hold the assembly, Pacquiao vehemently opposed it.
In the Cebu assembly, the party passed a resolution urging Duterte to run for vice president in 2022. Pacquiao has been vocal about his intentions to run for president in 2022.
