China on Thursday said 22 candidate vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) have entered clinical trials in the country.
“China has approved 22 Covid-19 vaccine candidates for clinical trials,” said Yuan Lin, an official with the National Medical Products Administration, according to public broadcaster CGTN.
Four of the vaccine candidates have been given conditional marketing approval while three others authorized for emergency use, Yuan added.
China has administered over 1.3 billion vaccine doses in the country and exported its vaccines to over 70 countries and international organizations.
According to the National Health Commission, China registered 17 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, including 15 imported.
The country has so far reported a total of 91,966 coronavirus cases, including 4,636 deaths.
China already has two vaccines for the Covid-19 developed by state-owned Sinopharm and private firm Sinovac that have been approved for emergency use in various countries.
