At least five political parties are now ready to back the possible presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in the 2022 national polls.
This, as the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) said it is inclined to form a coalition with five national parties to back Sara Duterte in 2022, HNP spokesman Anthony del Rosario said.
The five political parties that are ready to renew their ties with the HNP to back the Davao City mayor’s possible presidential bid in 2022 are the Lakas-Christian-Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), National Unity Party, Nacionalista Party, Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino and People’s Reform Party.
“We hope that the five national parties’ coalition will be able to provide the machinery needed for us to make Sara run as president,” del Rosario told reporters.
“When it comes to a national election, machinery and organization are important and we hope, assuming everything falls into place, wala tayong mga (there are no) major issues with regards to the coalition, we hope that the national parties, the five of them, would be able help us secure a win in 2022 for Mayor Sara,” he added.
Sara Duterte is also almost sure of getting the backing of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) as its supposedly ousted vice chairman, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, saying she ran under the ruling party when she won the mayoral position of Davao City. The PDP-Laban is currently under strife as a faction loyal to party president and Senator Manny Pacquiao has been defiant over the holding of meetings called by President Rodrigo Duterte, who is the party’s chairman.
