Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso is the new president of a political party founded by the late Senator Raul Roco.
Domagoso now heads the Aksyon Demokratiko that he joined just a week ago.
“We saw in Yorme someone with a clean track record, tangible accomplishments, and a vision that the party shares,” said Ernest Ramel, said the party’s newly-elected chairperson in a statement Thursday.
“We are confident that he will be able to help lead the party in its thrust to be a unifying force in an atmosphere of heavy political polarization,” Ramel added.
Last week, Domagoso left the National Unity Organization, saying he wanted a political party that prioritised the welfare of the people.
Meanwhile, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto retained his position as executive vice president of the party.
“Prior to his membership and eventual election as party President, Aksyon Demokratiko and Mayor Isko had a meeting of minds and hearts in many aspects,” the party said in a statement.
“We agreed on the Covid-19 response then to providing jobs and livelihood at these times. We also agreed on the rule of law, focusing on education, housing, and health care,” the party said.
“Aksyon is proud that Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso was elected Party President,” it added.
For his part, Domagoso said he is honored to e elected president of a “progressive party that has genuine concern for Filipinos.”
