The Department of Health (DOH) is probing the death of four family members in a Misamis Oriental town who passed away on separate occasions after reportedly getting Janssen Covid-19 vaccines.
Dr. Jerry Calingasan, chairman of the Misamis Oriental Inter-Agency Task Force Covid-19, said the DOH has no official report yet on the matter. Reports have it the four people, composed of two couples, lived separately in a coastal village in Laguindingan municipality.
The daughter and husband son-in-law were vaccinated on July 26, 2021 while the parent-couple also reportedly got the Janssen jab on July 27, 2021. Their deaths were reported early this month.
While the DOH is making an official probe on the matter, Calingasan said the four already had comorbidities.
“Based on my personal investigation, the couples did not die because of the vaccines. All of them have comorbidities and were taking the same medicines,” he said.
The single-dose Janssen Covid-19 vaccine is manufactured by Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) in the United States. The Philippines has so far received 3.213 million doses of the Janssen vaccine donated by the United States government through the COVAX Facility.
Janssen vaccine is a “game-changer” as aside from being a single-dose jab, it is a “second-generation” vaccine that has been tested for variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus diseases 2019 (Covid-19).
