President Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the nomination by the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) to run for vice president in 2022.
The ruling party also five of its senatorial bets for 2022.
PDP-Laban executive vice president and Secretary Karlo Nograles said Duterte “agreed to make the sacrifice and heed the clamor of the people, and accepted the endorsement of the PDP-Laban party for him to run as vice president in the 2022 national elections.”
He added there is a need for Duterte to become the country’s vice president to assure the continuation of the administration’s battle against the insurgency, corruption and illegal drugs, and the Build, Build, Build program.
Nograles also said that the following will be included in the PDP-Laban senatorial line up for 2022:
– House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta
– Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Gregorio Honasan
– Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo
– Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade
– Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar
The PDP-Laban earlier announced that it would meet this September 8 to formally endorse the tandem of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as president and Duterte as president. The meeting will be held in San Jose Del Monte City in Bulacan.The Philippine Constitution prohibits a president to have two consecutive terms, but there is no provision stating he or she cannot run for another public office after finishing his or her term.
