Four governors in Western Visayas have expressed their support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s vice presidential bid in the 2022 polls.
Antique’s Rhodora Cadiao, Capiz’s Esteban Contreras, Aklan’s Florencio Miraflores and Guimaras’ Samuel Gumarin issued a statement supporting Duterte’s vice presidential bid in 2022. There are now 40 provincial governors nationwide backing the bid of Duterte for vice president.
“We laud and support President Duterte’s decision to accept the offer of the administration PDP-Laban party to run for vice president in next year’s elections,” part of the statement read.
“As vice president, President Duterte could influence his successor to pursue his war on drugs, his Build, Build, Build infrastructure plan, projects for the poor, and his post-Covid-19 pandemic economic recovery roadmap, among other programs,” it added.
“We hope and pray that the next president and President Duterte as his vice president could work together in making life better for our people.”
The ruling PDP-Laban will formally proclaim this September 8 its candidates for president and vice president for 2022, or Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go for president and Duterte for vice president.
Duterte said earlier that he is accepting the PDP-Laban’s call to run for vice president in 2022. While Duterte running for vice president in 2022 has caused some uproar, the Constitution does not prohibit a president to run for a lower public office after his term is finished.
