Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will be seeking reelection for her current post and not a national post in the May 2022 polls.
Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco, her spokesperson, said Sara Duterte and her brother, Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, will seek reelection next year for their current posts.
“Yes, this is confirmed. According to Mayor Sara, she will run for reelection as Davao City Mayor and incumbent Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte will run for reelection,” Frasco told a national daily.
Sara Duterte has stated that since her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, will be running for vice president in 2022, she will no longer seek any national position in next year’s polls.
“We have a good agreement with President Duterte in our respective political careers. Let us give him our strongest support for his decision to run for Vice President,” Mayor Sara said in a video message posted on her official Facebook Page.
Last week, President Duterte formally accepted his nomination as the official vice presidential candidate of the ruling party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), to ensure the “continuity” of his efforts to bring progress to the country. His running mate is Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
Go was initially hesitant to accept the nomination of the PDP-Laban to run for president in 2022.
