The faction within the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) led by Senators Aquilino “Kiko” Pimentel 3rd and Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao formally declared Pacquiao as its presidential bet in the 2022 polls.
“It is time that we act to get our country out of the trap of poverty,” Pacquiao declared in Filipino.
This, as that faction of the PDP-Laban forged an alliance with the People’s Champ Movement and the Progressive Movement for the Devolution of Initiatives (Promdi) in an obvious move to back Pacquiao’s presidential bid in 2022.
PCM was a party founded by Pacquiao himself in 2009.
“The PDP-Laban, People’s Champ Movement and Promdi political parties sign an alliance agreement in support of Sen. Manny Pacquiao,” PDP-Laban Executive Director Ron Munsayac said in a statement.
“The alliance agreement was signed by [the] MP3 alliance head, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, PDP-Laban Chairman Sen. (Aquilino) “Koko” Pimentel, Promdi President Mimo Osmeña and PCM legal counsel (Franklin) Gacal,” he added.
The latest move of the faction of Pacquiao and Pimentel to form alliances will only worsen the current rift within the PDP-Laban, as the faction led by party president and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi has urged the Commission on Elections to declare Pacquiao and his group as “illegitimate officers” of the ruling party.
Also, the Cusi faction, which recognizes President Rodrigo Duterte as the party chairman, has already declared their tandem for 2002, or Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go for president and Duterte for vice president.
