The Hugpong Para kay Sara (HPS) wants Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to rethink her decision to seek reelection as mayor and instead run for president in 2022.
On Sunday, Sara Duterte filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) to seek reelection as mayor of Davao City, the same say that her father President Rodrigo Duterte said he was no longer running for vice president in 2022 and would retire from politics.
House Deputy Speaker and HPS spokesperson Bernadette Herrera said they believe Sara Duterte is fit to become the next Philippine president.
“The result of the latest survey shows that majority of the Filipino people still prefer Mayor Sara to be the next president for the next six years despite her reluctance to seek the presidency,” said Herrera.
She was referring to the latest Pulse Asia survey conducted from September 6 to 11 showing Sara Duterte was the top pick for president in 2022 with a 22-percent rating among 2,400 respondents.
But even if Sara Duterte has remained noncommittal so far in running for president in 2022, President Duterte said that her daughter will be pairing with Senator Christopher “Bong” Go to run for the country’s top post in 2022. Go on Saturday filed his COC to run for vice president in 2022.
