Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo will reveal her plans for the 2022 elections this week, particularly if she will run for president.
This, as Robredo’s spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said that she has not yet accepted the nomination of the opposition led by 1Sambayan to run for president in 2022.
He added the vice president will announce before Friday, or the last day for the filing of candidacies, her decision for 2022.
Robredo has been attempting to unite the opposition and was in talks with a few presidential candidates in the past weeks. And last Thursday, 1Sambayan announced it has chosen Robredo as its presidential bet for 2022.
“1Sambayan followed a rigorous process in reaching its decision. We consulted our local and foreign chapters as well as our partners together with our three million members,” said retired senior associate justice Antonio Carpio, the group’s lead convenor.
“We have chosen VP Leni. We, therefore, ask VP Leni to accept our endorsement and to lead the Filipino people in these difficult times in our history,” he added.
If Robredo does not accept 1Sambayan’s nomination, the group said it would seek another presidential candidate for 2022.
