Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. declared on Tuesday that he will run for president the 2022 national polls.
This, as he took his oath as chairman of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) also on Tuesday at the party’s new headquarters in Mandaluyong.
“He is now the chairman of the party,” said Vic Rodriguez, PFP executive vice president.
The PFP was the first party to declare Marcos as its standard bearer for the 2022 polls.
“Join me in this noblest of causes and we will succeed. Together, we will rise again,” he said in a speech streamed over social media.
Also, while PFP held its elections last Sept. 18, it reserved the position of chairman for Marcos.
Marcos earlier on September stated that he was open to running for president in 2022.
“So, yes. I think that is a common sentiment that I really… that many of our supporters definitely want me to run for the presidency,” he said in a virtual forum.Political analysts see Marcos enjoying the support of the voters’ bloc that brought President Rodrigo Duterte to power in 2016. Hence, the analysts do not see a member of the Duterte clan going up against Marcos in the 2022 polls.
