Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo will run for president in 2022 under the opposition coalition 1Sambayan, which earlier endorsed her as their standard bearer.
After announcing her intent to run for president before lunch time on Thursday, Robredo filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) in the afternoon at the Commission on Elections satellite office at the Harbor Garden Tent of Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.
In declaring her intention to run in 2022 for president, Robredo said she will seek more equality for Filipinos.
“More equality, pro-people, where every Filipino will have a chance for a better life,” she said in Filipino.
Robredo said that she is ready to contend for the presidency in 2022 and ready for the campaign with her supporters.
“Now we will go into a bigger battle…..I am confident, I will give my all out strength, not only for the polls, but even the last of my days,” she said in Filipino.
Robredo earlier tried to form a united opposition but the presidential aspirants she talked with decided to push through with their own run for the top position of the country in 2022.
She was eventually wooed by 1Sambayan that is made largely of anti-Duterte personalities like former Supreme Court associate justice Antonio Carpio.
