Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo has given up on uniting the opposition.
This, as some key presidential candidates she has talked with decided to pursue their own candidacies in 2022. Robredo has been in talks with a few presidential candidates weeks before the start of the filing of candidacies last October 1, 2020.
In a virtual press conference from her office in Quezon City, Robredo said she would focus instead on uniting Filipinos.
“It should not be just for the sake of unity but for united aspirations and how we can gear the country together,” she said.
Robredo is running under 1Sambayan with Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan as his running mate.
Robredo’s trying to unite the opposition did not sit well with some of the presidential candidates like Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso who on Friday lashed out against the vice president.
Domagoso also questioned Robredo’s real intent for seeking the country’s highest post.
“Is that the only reason why she is running? How about us Filipinos. We don’t have work. Many Filipinos do not have enough food to eat and are facing a bleak future. Marcos again)?” Domagoso said, referring to Robredo’s repeated pronouncements before she declared her candidacy that she will run for president to prevent Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. from winning.
