A commissioned Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey for the senatorial race in 2022 showed that broadcast journalist Raffy Tulfo is the Filipinos’ top choice for senator in 2022.
The survey, commissioned by Stratbase ADR Institute Inc., found that 57 percent of the adult Filipino respondents picked Tulfo as their top senatorial bet.
Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero (41 percent), House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda (41 percent), and former Public Works and Highways chief Mark Villar (41 percent) followed Tulfo and were all tied for second to fourth place.
Former House Speaker and incumbent Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano was fifth with 38 percent, Senate Majority Leader Miguel Zubiri at sixth with 34 percent, and former senator Jinggoy Estrada at seventh place with 29 percent.
Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, the running mate of presidential aspirant and Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo in 2022, came in at eighth with 28 percent, while comedian Willie Revillame and Senator Risa Hontiveros were tied at the ninth and 10th place both with 25 percent.
Revillame backed out of the 2022 senatorial race.
Rounding up the so-called “Magic 12” are reelectionists Senator Sherwin Gatchalian and Richard Gordon who were tied at 11th and 12th place, getting 21 percent.
The Third Quarter 2021 Social Weather Survey was conducted from September 12 to 16, 2021, using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide: 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. Face-to-face is the standard interviewing method for Social Weather Stations; the only exceptions were early in the pandemic when movement restrictions made face-to-face impossible and mobile phone interviews were conducted. Normal face-to-face field operations resumed in November 2020. The sampling error margins are ±3 percent for national percentages and ±6 percent for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
