It was earlier reported over the weekend that Duterte would run for vice president with Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as his running mate. Go filed his COC to run for president in 2022 under the PDP-Laban, where he and Duterte is allied with the faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

Go was accompanied by Duterte when the senator submitted his statement of withdrawal as vice-presidential candidate and COC for president at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila on Saturday. Also, the PDP-Laban Cusi-faction’s original presidential candidate, Senator Ronaldo “Bato” Dela Rosa. withdrew his COC for president.

Duterte’s move came after his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, filed on Saturday her COC to run for vice president in 2022 under the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD).

His move avoided a potential father versus daughter battle for vice president in 2022.

The Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) earlier adopted Sara Duterte as the running mate of PFP’s standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for the May 9, 2022 national and local elections.
