Also, the approval rating of Duterte bounced back in the fourth quarter, also according to the survey firm.

Based on Publicus Asia’s Pahayag Quarter 4 (PHYG-Q4), Duterte got a 56-percent preference rating from the 1,500 respondents surveyed from December 6 to 10, for No. 2 spot among the top choice for senators in 2022.

Former Senator and current Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero topped the senatorial survey with 57 percent, dislodging the former top choice, broadcaster Raffy Tulfo who wound up in fourth with 42 percent.

“Chiz Escudero (57 percent), Rodrigo Duterte (56 percent), Alan Peter Cayetano (45 percent), Raffy Tulfo (42 percent) and (Sherwin) Win Gatchalian (42 percent) secured the top five spots of the PHYG-Q4 senatorial poll,” Publicus Asia said.

“The entry of President Duterte has made the race even more crowded. Other late entries that appear to have altered the race dynamics include (former Philippine National Police chief) Guillermo Eleazar (26 percent) and (former presidential spokesperson) Harry Roque (24 percent),” it added.

Meanwhile, Duterte’s approval rating in the fourth quarter in the same survey bounced back to almost the same level he got in the first quarter of this year.

Specifically, Duterte got an approval rating of 64.867 percent for the fourth quarter or almost equaling the 64.866-percent the president got in the first quarter of this year. In the first quarter of this year, Duterte’s approval rating was at 57.934 and 59.80 in the second quarter.

On the other hand, the approval rating of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo was at 30.267 percent in the fourth quarter, which was a slight drop from the 31.33 percent she got in the third quarter.
