There is no way former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate Davao City mayor Sara Duterte will lose in the May 9 polls unless the other candidates for the top posts of the land unite.

Vice presidential candidate Rizalito David disclosed this during Sunday’s debate for vice presidential candidates held by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), saying none of those who participated in the debate can win against the Sara Duterte and the UniTeam. The Davao City mayor did not attend the Comelec debate.

“So, I am calling on my fellow candidates – let us form, let us talk, let us form a grand coalition to defeat Marcos and Duterte. Please, please, please do a selfless act. Let us defeat Marcos and let us defeat Duterte together because we cannot do it by our lonesome,” David said.

He expressed sadness Sara Duterte was not present in the Comelec’s debate on Sunday.

“I’m sad that the person leading the survey is not here. We can’t hear her opinion on this matter. I hope Inday Sara is here so she can say what she wants about this matter. Inday Sara, attend the debates; we want to shake hands with you,” he said.

There was an effort to unite the opposition before the filing of candidacies started in October last year, with Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo’s being groomed as the presidential candidate of the coalition.

However, Robredo’s camp failed to get the support of the camps of fellow presidential contenders Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.
